Run by an occupational therapist, Lego Therapy is 3-day holiday program that helps children practise social, communication, and language skills within a small group. It's a fantastic and fun way to help children aged 8-10 develop these critical life skills, and build their confidence.
Lego Therapy was uncovered as a therapeutic intervention by psychologist Daniel LeGoff (2004). His discovery came when he observed two of his socially withdrawn child patients playing together with Lego in his clinic’s waiting room, sparking the idea of developing an intervention involving the construction toys.
Today, Lego Therapy is used primarily with children to teach skills such as the following (Raising Children Network Australia, 2021):
- Turn-taking
- Sharing
- Listening
- Conversation
- Teamwork
- Shared attention
- Problem-solving
