About Jewish House
Jewish House has been part of the Sydney community for over 40 years, offering crisis care, safe accommodation and compassionate support. Our mission is simple: to be here for anyone in need, at any time.
Our Mission
At Jewish House, we’re committed to helping people navigate life’s challenges with support, care and a renewed sense of hope.
Our mission is to reduce the impact of personal crisis by offering immediate help and ongoing guidance across housing, mental health, employment issues, relationships and more.
We work alongside individuals, families, carers and service partners to restore stability, build resilience and prevent future crises. Through practical programs and compassionate care, we aim to create stronger, safer communities for everyone.
Where Jewish House began
Jewish House was founded in 1983 by brothers Anthony and Roger Clifford. Their generous donation funded the purchase of the Bondi building that became home to the organisation’s early work.
Originally focused on counselling for people affected by drug and alcohol abuse, Jewish House has grown into a leading provider of crisis support, mental health services and homelessness support in Sydney. Since day one, we’ve supported vulnerable people from all walks of life, offering care without judgement or discrimination.
Our Model of Care
Individualised, short-term, and intensive care, drawing from a variety of services, with support available for transitioning into long-term care as needed.
Availability & accessibility
Jewish House stands ready 24/7 to respond at a moment’s notice in a crisis—no barriers, no exceptions. Whether reaching out by phone or text, connecting with us is fast and easy.
Welcoming environment
Crisis doesn’t discriminate, and neither do we. We offer a safe, respectful space where everyone is met with compassion and zero judgment from the second they step through our doors.
Rapid assessment
Our quick, thorough assessments ensure immediate needs are understood and addressed with the right interventions to safeguard well-being.
Intensive emergency care
Similar to an emergency room in a hospital, our crisis intervention is fast and relentless. Our 24/7 crisis line connects individuals to highly trained professionals who act swiftly to provide critical support.
Trusted referrals
When specialized or ongoing assistance is needed, we don’t hesitate to connect individuals to reliable partners, ensuring they get the right help when it matters most.
Pre- & post-crisis support
We’re proactive and persistent. Our pre-crisis services aim to prevent crises from escalating, while our post-crisis support works to prevent recurrence and promote stability.
