“Parent's wellbeing has a significant impact on their child’s happiness and overall development”
In the wake of the Bondi attack, many families are navigating heightened stress, uncertainty and big emotions. Children may show worry, fear, confusion or changes in behaviour — all very normal responses to distressing events. Supporting children through this begins with supporting their parents.
Peaceful Parents is a Mindfulness and Positive Psychology based parenting program to increase resilience in both parents and their children. While this program may be particularly helpful for families affected by the Bondi attack, it is open to all parents and carers in the community.
It is a strength-based parenting workshop that is engaging, practical and supportive for parents. Parents learn strategies to connect with their child, lessen stress, enjoy parenting more as well as learning practical strategies to build resilience in their children.
Parents learn to hold the space for their stressed or anxious child and help them regulate their emotions, through modelling. This is where the ‘Peaceful Parents’ program is so powerful. By focusing on listening, communication and mindful parenting we can demonstrate these skills to our children day in day out.
To make attendance easier, a children’s activity will run at the same time in a dedicated space, so parents are welcome to bring their little ones along.
