Be Like the Shamash

During Chanukah, the "helper candle"—the Shamash—offers profound insights for parents and caregivers. In this video I explore two powerful lessons: Trusting the Light: We light our children's potential, step back, and trust they can weather storms, because we know that we are there to reignite their flame when needed. Giving Without Diminishing: The Shamash gets its fuel from a source separate from the other candles. We, too, have an identity separate to that of 'Mother' or 'Father' and if we can find sources of joy outside of parenting it enables us to shine brighter within our homes. With just a small shift in perspective, we can continue to parent purposefully.
